Step-by-step: what to do now
- 1 Act within 24 hours of booking IF departure is 7+ days away. DGCA CAR Section 3 Series M Part IV gives you a free Look-In window — no change fee, only fare difference if any.
- 2 After the 24-hour window, check your fare type. Saver/Basic = highest change fee (₹2,000-₹4,000). Flexi = ₹0 fee or low fee (₹500-₹1,500). UpFront/Plus/Stretch = lowest fee or free changes (already bundled).
- 3 For HappyFares bookings, raise the date-change request through HappyFares customer care. We process directly with the airline and pass-through the airline fee at cost (no HappyFares mark-up).
- 4 Calculate the total cost: (date-change fee, if any) + (new fare minus old fare). If new fare is cheaper, the difference is generally NOT refunded — airlines treat one-way fare differences as paid for, not redeemable.
- 5 For multi-passenger bookings, the airline charges change fee per passenger, not per booking. Plan accordingly — for large family bookings, cancellation + rebooking may be cheaper than change fees.
- 6 If you have Smart Saver (CFAR), it's often cheaper to cancel + rebook on the correct date rather than pay the change fee. Calculate both options before deciding.

Is the 24-hour cancellation rule applicable to date changes too?
Yes — the DGCA Look-In window covers both cancellations and changes. If you booked within 24 hours and your departure is 7+ days away, the airline cannot charge a date-change fee. Only the fare difference (if the new date is more expensive) applies.
Can I change the date on a Saver fare?
Yes, with a fee — ₹2,000-₹4,000 depending on airline. The fee is per passenger. For multi-passenger bookings, calculate vs cancellation+rebook to find the cheaper path.
Will I get a refund if the new date is cheaper?
Generally no. Indian airlines treat one-way fare differences as paid-for — if the new fare is ₹500 cheaper, you don't get the ₹500 back, but you also don't pay extra. The change fee is what you pay regardless.
How many times can I change the date on the same booking?
IndiGo Flexi: one free change, subsequent ₹1,500 each. Air India Economy Flex: one free, subsequent ₹2,000 each. Saver fares: each change is the full ₹2,500-₹4,000. No upper limit on number of changes; just keep paying the fee.
