SpiceJet Domestic Baggage Allowance 2026

SpiceJet operates three fare families on domestic routes: SpiceSaver (cheapest, smallest allowance), SpiceFlex (middle tier, includes changes), and SpiceMax (premium with extra-legroom, generous baggage). The pricing differential between Saver and Max often justifies upgrading for heavy packers.

SpiceJet Cabin Baggage Rules

SpiceJet's cabin baggage policy: one bag maximum 55 cm × 35 cm × 25 cm and 7 kg, plus one personal item under 3 kg. The combined cabin allowance is 10 kg. Items that exceed dimensions are tagged for the hold at the gate; weight overage incurs the standard excess baggage rate (₹650/kg at airport).

💡 Bin space tip: Boeing 737 overhead bins on SpiceJet hold one standard 55 cm trolley per passenger. Boarding by group (Group A first for SpiceMax) means earlier groups are more likely to find bin space directly above their seat.

SpiceJet Sports & Special Baggage

Bicycles, Surfboards, Golf Bags

Sports equipment is accepted as checked baggage on SpiceJet at standard weight rates. Bicycles must be deflated and boxed (cardboard or hard case). Surfboards must be in a padded board bag. Each item counts as one piece toward your free allowance plus any oversize charge if linear dimension exceeds 158 cm (₹2,500 domestic / ₹6,000 international).

Pets

SpiceJet permits small pets (under 5 kg total weight including carrier) in the cabin on domestic flights only — must be booked in advance via spicejet.com Pet Travel page. Charges: ₹4,000 for cabin pet, ₹6,000 for hold pet (over 5 kg). Pets are not accepted on international routes.

Strollers and Car Seats

One collapsible stroller and one car seat travel free per infant/child. They can be checked at the gate (gate-tagged) or checked in at the counter — most parents prefer gate-checking to use the stroller through the terminal.

SpiceJet Baggage Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't pack power banks in checked bags — they must be in cabin (BCAS rule). Power banks over 100 Wh require pre-approval; over 160 Wh are prohibited.
  • Don't assume your "carry-on" is light enough — many wheeled cabin bags weigh 3–4 kg empty. Pack to 4 kg of contents to stay under 7 kg.
  • Don't buy excess baggage at the airport — it's 60% more expensive than buying online 4 hours before departure.
  • Don't pack valuables in checked baggage — SpiceJet's liability is capped at ~₹450/kg (approximately ₹6,750 for a 15 kg bag) under domestic carrier liability rules.

SpiceJet Baggage vs IndiGo, Air India, Akasa

Akasa Air Plus15 kg7 kg + 3 kg₹600/kg
Air India Economy25 kg8 kg₹500/kg

For domestic routes, Air India's 25 kg standard allowance is the most generous. Among LCCs (IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa, AIX), the 15 kg allowance is uniform — but SpiceJet's excess fee is the highest (₹650/kg vs ₹600/kg).
