About Star Air — India's Regional Embraer Operator

Star Air, owned by the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, launched its first commercial flight in January 2019 from Bengaluru to Hubli. Since then, it has expanded to ~25 destinations across India, focusing on connecting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities that mainline carriers (IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet) do not serve directly. It is one of the most active participants in the Government of India's UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) regional connectivity scheme.

Star Air operates a 100% Embraer regional jet fleet — the Embraer E145 (50-seat) and Embraer E175 (76-seat) — which is unusual for an Indian airline and gives it operational flexibility to serve smaller airports with shorter runways and lower demand.

Star Air Routes 2026 — Where Does It Fly?

Star Air's network is built around its Hubli hub plus secondary bases at Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Most routes are UDAN-subsidised, meaning seats on these flights are partly funded by the Government of India to keep fares affordable on otherwise commercially-unviable Tier-2/3 connections.

Star Air Popular Routes

  • Bengaluru ↔ Hubli — the flagship route, multiple frequencies daily
  • Hubli ↔ Tirupati, Ajmer, Belagavi, Jamshedpur — UDAN routes
  • Bengaluru ↔ Mysore (Mysuru), Salem, Tiruchirappalli
  • Mumbai ↔ Kolhapur, Nashik, Belagavi
  • Hyderabad ↔ Sholapur, Cuddapah, Tirupati
  • Indore ↔ Surat, Kishangarh
💡 Why book Star Air: If you live in Hubli, Kolhapur, Mysore, Sholapur, or any Karnataka/Maharashtra Tier-2 city, Star Air is often the only direct flight option. Routing via Bengaluru or Mumbai on mainline carriers means longer travel time + connecting hassle.

Star Air Fare Range & Booking

Star Air's UDAN-route fares are capped at government-defined ceilings (typically ₹2,500–₹4,000 one-way for routes under 1 hour, ₹4,000–₹6,000 for 1–2 hour routes). Non-UDAN routes (e.g. Bengaluru–Mumbai) follow standard market pricing — typically ₹3,500–₹6,500 one-way.

Star Air does not segment fares into Lite/Saver/Flex categories — there's a single base fare with optional add-ons (extra baggage, preferred seat ₹200, meals on longer flights).

⚠️ UDAN seat limit: Government-subsidised UDAN seats are capped at 50% of seats on each flight. Once filled, the remaining seats sell at unsubsidised rates (sometimes 1.5–2× the UDAN fare). Book early for UDAN pricing.

Star Air Cancellation Policy

Star Air offers a 24-hour DGCA-compliant free cancellation window when booked 7+ days before departure. Outside that:

  • More than 24h before departure: ₹2,000 cancellation fee + balance refunded to original payment method
  • 4–24h before departure: ₹3,000 fee + balance refunded
  • Less than 4h before / no-show: Non-refundable except for airport taxes

Refund timeline: 5–7 business days to credit card, 3–5 days to net banking.
