Alliance Air operates an all-ATR 72 fleet (ATR 72-600 and -500 variants). The ATR 72 is a 70-72 seat turboprop optimized for short-haul regional routes. Unlike Boeing 737/Airbus A320 mainline jets, the ATR 72 has a strict Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) constraint of approximately 23 tonnes — every kilogram of passenger baggage counts.
Because of this, Alliance Air may, in rare cases (overweight flights from short-runway airports like Lilabari or Shimla), off-load some checked baggage and forward it on the next available flight at no extra charge. This is more common in monsoon-season operations.

Cabin Baggage Tips for Alliance Air Flights
The ATR 72's cabin has smaller overhead bins than the jets you may be used to. Practical tips:
- Use a soft cabin bag — fits more flexibly in the bin than a hard-shell trolley
- Pack essentials in cabin baggage — items you must have on arrival, in case checked baggage is off-loaded
- Avoid maximum-dimension hard cases — overhead bin width can be tight on the E145
- Check in any oversized cabin items at the gate — Alliance Air staff will gate-tag them for the hold at no extra charge
