If the airline cancels, changes or delays your flight
The airline is responsible for schedule changes, delays, cancellations and denied boarding, under the DGCA's rules. We tell you what the airline tells us, as soon as we know, and help you get what you are owed.
Your rights, in short
- If the airline cancels your flight or changes it significantly, you can choose another flight or a full refund.
- If a domestic flight is delayed more than 6 hours, the airline must offer another flight within 6 hours or a full refund.
- During long delays the airline must provide meals and, in some cases, a hotel.
- Compensation is not automatic for every cancellation or denied boarding. It depends on the notice given and on whether the airline offers a qualifying other flight, and it is not due when the cause is outside the airline's control, such as bad weather, a security risk or a strike.
What comes back to you
If the airline cancels, or changes your flight and you choose a refund, you get back the fare, taxes and fees, and any extras on that flight. We keep one fee only, never both: the convenience fee if you paid one, otherwise our HappyFares fee. On an Easy Refund fare, the whole fare comes back with no cancellation fee.
If the airline does not resolve it, you can complain to its Nodal Officer or on AirSewa (airsewa.gov.in). Other countries' passenger rules may also apply on international journeys.
